As approved in the 2023-2024 budget, Beaverton Garden Club has made monetary donations to these local non-profit organizations.
District Scholarship – We contribute to the Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs and their College Scholarship Fund, which will award a college student in their sophomore year or higher $2000 if they attend an accredited Oregon college in one of many environmental programs.
Aloha Community Library – We contribute $200 to the Aloha Community Library for the purchase of gardening-related books or materials.
Penny Pines @ $68/acre – We contribute $1,360 to the Penny Pines Program, by which the NGC and the USDA Forest Service are proud to have formed a partnership sustaining our national and urban forests through this reforestation/forest education program.
Oregon Gardens – We contribute $500 to the Oregon Gardens, an 80+ acre botanical garden in Silverton, OR.
4-H – We contribute $150 to the Washington County 4H, working with OSU to provide youth in our area opportunities for environmental studies and experiences they might not have otherwise.
Oral Hull Garden – We contribute $100 to the Oral Hull Foundation to help maintain their amazing garden that it specifically designed to provide a wonderful garden experience for those with impaired vision.
HOPE – Honor Our Precious Elders – We contribute $500 to HOPE, who provide free gardening and small landscaping services to the elderly in the Beaverton and Portland area.
Promise Tree – We contribute $200 to the Promise Tree Project, which has been helping families who lost their homes in the devastating wildfires of 2020.
Lettuce Grow – We contribute $500 to the Lettuce Grow program. In partnership with the Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, The Lettuce Grow program designs hands-on garden-based classes and workshops for Oregon Incarcerated students. The produce generated in our learning gardens supplements nutrition for incarcerated people on the inside and participants earn professional credentials and skills that aid their successful re-entry to society on the outside.
Home Plate – We contribute $500 to Home Plate Youth Services, in addition to the two times they received monthly Raffle proceeds this past fiscal year. Home Plate serves youth ages 12-24 who are experiencing any type of instability. They can help with documentation and identification, job search and application assistance, skills training, resume & cover letter creation, and interview coaching.
Cedar Park Middle School – We contribute $500 to Cedar Park Middle School with the wish that our donation be used for gardening training or environmental awareness, to provide local children with more accessibility to actual gardening.
Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs Project – We contribute $500 to the State President’s Project, which is to purchase one or two wheelchairs that are specially designed with large tires and other accommodations. These wheelchairs would be available for handicapped persons to borrow so that they might enjoy Oregon’s amazing beaches.
